When they say "a picture is worth a thousand words", surely they are describing this exact image. While we all have a special place in our hearts for nostalgic snapshots, there is no substitute for a perfectly and precisely executed professional photograph. An image like this one captures a time and place that can never be reproduced. By all accounts, it would require a lengthy trip by land, sea and air to arrive at this ice floe. Travel and wildlife photographers spend an extraordinary amount of time planning their trips, then trekking through the harsh elements to find their vantage point. They could literally camp out for days, awaiting the perfect light (and if they are lucky), that elusive leaping polar bear. The resulting image is one that can illustrate almost every advertising concept under the sun, not to mention some important editorial ones too.
